23 Hours and Counting…

It’s getting real.

I’m getting excited.

I’ve been nervous, and that hasn’t changed much.

This morning I went to my weekly therapy session where we talked a bit about getting ready for everything. I mentioned this blog to my therapist. She was impressed that I would be so transparent and public about my new journey!

Until I told her I’m not.

If you’re reading these words, it’s because I’ve let you in. At this moment what’s going on is still under wraps. I’m telling more and more people (and feeling comfortable about it), but I’m not quite yet at the point where I can tell everyone. I haven’t started yet. I don’t know how Day One will go. (Chances are it will be fine.) But I don’t want to worry about potential negativity about what I’m doing. And broadcasting anything out to the internet has the potential to do that.

I don’t want to have to answer questions or explain myself. At least not at this point in the game. I need a win first. Maybe after the first week or two when I realize this actually might work out fine.

I did schoolwork this evening. There was a contract I needed to sign for my PSYC class. A syllabus to read and a quiz about it. (!) And I decided to get slightly ahead and start reading through some of the online textbook and achieve “.25 Mastery Training” in “Mind Tap.” All new concepts to me. But the actual educational concepts are more of a review, so that’s nice. I think in the past 25 years or so institutions realized that providing a roadmap for students to learn a specific method of studying to retain knowledge has made them more successful. Hence — platforms like “Cengage” and “Mind Tap.” Being able to get instant quiz feedback through Canvas. (I got a 100% on my syllabus quiz!) Either these are helping students or they’re a great money-making enterprise that keeps the school above water. Either way it’s something new to get used to.

I printed out the introductory lecture slides for my Biological Sciences class. The instructor used a picture of himself holding a snake. And his last slide was the three rules of entropy in the style of the Monopoly board. I guess some things don’t actually change…

My weekly political seminar — the class still shows 20 out of 25 seats still open. I hope it still is on board to happen. I read a little more about it, and it mentions that campaigns don’t necessarily have to be political races. I might be the annoying person who brings up reproductive justice. 🙂

I think I have everything in-home for tomorrow. One spiral notebook so far, but if I need to get another one I can easily. Breakfast, lunch, clothes. Charged laptop. I guess that’s all I need, right?

I did do something different with my facial hair for school tomorrow, though. (It’s still there, just significantly shorter.)
